“Lota Rules”*

“Lota Rules” plays on the two different meanings of the two words that constitute the title of this piece. The image can be interpreted to demonstrate the supremacy of the lota over toilet paper – especially pertinent given the hoarding of toilet paper during lockdowns around the world, or, the many U-turns taken by politicians in these uncertain times.

lota noun (VESSEL)

a round vessel employed to cleanse oneself in the toilet

rule noun (CONTROL)

a period of time during which a particular person or group is in control of a country

lota noun (POLITICIAN)

A politician with a tendency of changing political loyalties [or mind!]. This definition comes from the fact that if tilted on its side, a lota (vessel) can easily roll from side to side

rule noun (INSTRUCTION)

an accepted principle or instruction that states the way things are or should be done, and tells you what you are allowed or are not allowed to do
